StarTider

StarTider is a device capable of harnessing the power of a free-flowing body of water and converting that kinetic energy into electrical energy.

A semi-submerged drum containing a complex system of coils, containing air and water, rotates producing high pressure water, which is then used to drive a generator. The drum is rotated by an innovative new approach to harnessing a large volume of tidal energy- the Propeller Array. (please click for larger image)

APPLICATIONS

StarTideris fantastically scaleable due to its mechanical simplicity. There is no gear-box to limit the power generation and the Propeller Array can be extended to include more propeller units, thus drawing energy from a far larger body of water. It is suitable for use in a wide range of tidal and river applications which means that it can be placed in areas near to energy need, such as the Thames Estuary and the Amazon river.
